LENT 2016

ASH WEDNESDAY – FEBRUARY 10TH

 

Ashes will be distributed after the homily during Mass at 8:00AM9:00AM at a5:00PM Prayer service and at 7:00PM Mass at OLPH and during the 9:00AMMass, and 3:30 and 7:00PM Prayer Services at St. Catharine's.  Ashes may not be distributed outside of a liturgical setting.

Baptized persons who have made their First Penance are candidates to receive ashes. Infants and young children are not candidates because they are incapable of personal sin. Ashes are a symbol of our effort to change our life through prayer and fasting and avoid sin in the future.

FAST AND ABSTINENCE

 

All Fridays of Lent are days of abstinence from meat.

This obliges everyone who is 14 years old and beyond.

Fasting permits only one full meal a day. Two smaller meals may be taken but should not equal one full meal. Fasting obliges those who are 18-59 years old and in good health.
Ash Wednesday and Good Friday are days of fast and abstinence.

LENTEN OFFERING:   February 27-28
Second Collection for Maryknoll Sister Marion Hughes and her work with AIDS orphans in Tanzania. This annual parish effort helps to make a great difference in the lives of so  many children and is part of our parish outreach to those in need.

SACRED SUPPER:   Holy Thursday, March 24th at 6:00PM in the lower church followed by Mass at 7:30PM. Reservations required.  Details will be in the bulletin.

REDISCOVERING CATHOLICISM:   This easy to read book will be available free in Church on Ash Wednesday. Please take one per family and use it during Lent to reflect and renew the faith we share.
